I have done a lot of research about women's friendship and the ways that people can maintain healthy relationships in the long term. In a recent study, however, we explored what women between the ages of 18 and 75 want from men in their lives. Not surprisingly, the qualities women seek for heterosexual romantic partners, male friends, and men in general are not all different from those of a friend's lover. It makes sense: Any good relationship builds on some basic, down-to-earth qualities.
Signs of moral integrity
Mutual respect is an all-or-nothing proposition: once a person loses respect for a partner, all bets are off. Women should be given the same respect that men give to other men. When disrespect or patronage of a person is felt, the relationship is likely to end sooner rather than later. In the context of romantic relationships, even when you are angry or disappointed with a partner, respect should be maintained.
Regular and clever open communication is essential. A healthy relationship develops when communication is clear.
Honesty is another "make or break" quality: don't give anyone a reason to doubt you.
Trust and credibility allow relationships to deepen.
Taking responsibility for tasks and behavior. Long-term healthy relationships require high levels of maturity. Without it, disagreements and conflicts deteriorate as the couple engages in a "flawed game". Communication fails and emotional damage can occur which cannot be easily corrected.
Symptoms of relative sensitivity
Women need men to show compassion, patience, understanding, empathy, and compassion. Regardless of the type of relationship, men and women should consider each other's feelings. Acknowledge that a partner's trials and tribulations matter to him and that the partner's roles are to care for and take care of each other.
Friendship between men and women is also desired. To be your partner's friend means dealing with the patient, accepting the way in which you treat other close friends.
Emotional maturity is necessary. It is okay to have some childish fun when it is appropriate, but it is important for women and men to grow up while doing so. Being aware that brute strength is not the same intelligence is also helpful in maintaining healthy communication and contact. Sometimes it is better to sit down and think about problems before trying to put your partner in a forced solution.
What does everyone want?
Women need men in their lives to be feminist allies, who want to see women in their lives, they are successful in every way as much as they want to enjoy their success. Men should take the time to recognize and acknowledge a woman's strengths and respect her for all that he brings to his relationship. And when it comes to a romantic relationship, women want the same things that men want; they just want them in a different order.
